Terms of Service

These terms govern your use of Rethos, a service operated by Racka (“we”). By creating an account or using the service, you agree to them.

What the service does

Rethos lets operators request photos captured through a live, in-browser camera and produces a tamper-evident record for each photo — including a cryptographic fingerprint, a timestamp, and, where available, GPS coordinates. The service is provided to help establish that a photo was captured live and has not been altered since.

What the service does not do

Rethos verifies provenance — that a photo is the original, unaltered capture from a given time and place. It does not verify the content of a photo. It does not confirm that a photo depicts a particular object, condition, or subject, and it does not detect whether the scene in front of the camera was itself staged or misrepresented. Location data is device-reported and may be denied or inaccurate. You should not treat a Rethos record as a guarantee of anything beyond photo integrity.

Your responsibilities

• You are responsible for activity under your account and for keeping your credentials secure.
• You must have the right to request and store the photos you collect, and to collect any personal data involved.
• You must not use the service to harass, deceive, or infringe the rights of others, or in violation of any law.
• You must not attempt to circumvent, tamper with, or reverse-engineer the integrity mechanisms of the service.

Acceptable use

You may not upload unlawful content, attempt to breach the security of the service, overload or disrupt it, or use it to store material you have no right to store. We may suspend accounts that violate these terms.

Availability

The service is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. We do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted or error-free. This is early-stage software and features may change.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Racka is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for any loss arising from reliance on a verification record beyond what the service actually attests to (photo integrity). Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us for the service in the twelve months before the claim.

Changes and termination

We may update these terms; material changes will be reflected in the “last updated” date. You may stop using the service at any time. We may suspend or end access for violation of these terms.
